We usually schedule the first checkup between the eighth and tenth weeks of your pregnancy. This comprises an intake and an ultrasound. The appointment takes about 45 minutes. First you will visit the ultrasound operator for your scan, then sit down with the midwife for a chat.
During this first appointment, we will do a number of physical checkups: we measure your blood pressure, your weight and take a blood sample.
We also ask about your health, whether there have been any birth defects in your family, and how any previous pregnancies went. We will also discuss matters such as nutrition and medicine use.
During this intake you will also become acquainted with our practice. We will tell you about our accessibility, how we work and who works for us. If you have certain expectations of the pregnancy counseling, we will also discuss this.
Finally, you will receive information from us about the pregnancy and, if desired, about prenatal screening.
