Knowlegde Base: Blood Test | Midwifery Practice Bergweg

During your first appointment at the practice, we will discuss the blood test. The blood test is offered to gain more insight into your health and that of your baby.
Why a Blood Test? The blood test checks for the following:
Your blood type and rhesus factor: This is important to know if there are risks of antibody formation, which can have consequences for the baby.
Iron levels: Low iron levels can indicate anemia, which can affect your energy levels.
Infectious diseases: Such as hepatitis B, syphilis, or HIV, so that any treatments can start in time.
Blood group antibodies: To check if there are antibodies present that could pose a risk to the baby.
How does it work? The blood is taken from you and examined in the laboratory of the Franciscus Gasthuis. The results will be discussed with you by your midwife, who will also explain what any results mean and whether further tests are needed.
More information about blood tests during pregnancy can be found on the RIVM website: pregnant folder
