Birth Wishes

Birth Wishes

In the knowledge base, you’ll find a template for a “birth plan.” We prefer to call it birth wishes. Giving birth is an adventure, and adventures don’t always go as planned. For us, the most important thing is that your wishes are heard and that we support you as much as possible. The safety of both mother and child is also very important to us. That’s why, in some situations, different decisions may be made in consultation with you than originally planned.

Inducing labor

Inducing labor

Around 39 weeks, your midwife will have a conversation with you about the option of inducing labor at 41 or 42 weeks. During this discussion, we will explore the advantages and disadvantages to help you make an informed decision.

In Rotterdam, you have the choice to decide when your induction takes place. You can opt to be induced from 41 weeks onward. If you decide to wait beyond 41 weeks, additional monitoring—such as measuring your amniotic fluid—will be conducted.

Gynaecologist

Gynaecologist

If a medical indication arises—or there’s an increased risk for you or your baby—we will transfer your care to a gynecologist in consultation with you. For example, this might involve:

  • Inducing labor

  • A cesarean section

  • Managing high blood pressure

At our Bergweg Birth Center, we have a close collaboration with gynecologists in Rotterdam from Franciscus Gasthuis and Erasmus MC. The gynecologist takes the ultimate responsibility for your care, while we remain by your side to support you every step of the way.
